Pokémon is a Japanese animated series which has been adapted for the European and American people as well which is a part of the Pokémon franchise, an off-shoot of the popular Pokémon video games and Manga series.
Pokémon’s story revolves around a young boy named Ash Ketchum who upon reaching tenth year of his life gets from Professor Oak his first Pokémon, thus marking the beginning of his Pokémon journey. Along with Ash, on this journey are his close friends, Dawn, Max, Tracey, May, Brock and Misty. They go along as a team through different leagues like the Kanto, Johto, Orange, Battle Frontier, Hoenn and Sinnoh. And where ever he goes, Ash plays his every chance to gain a Pokémon, while Tracey moves around sketching Pokémon, Brock likes Rock Pokemons. Misty looks for the Watery kind of Pokémon and May, who in the beginning was more interested to visit places, then get a Pokémon, later jumps into Pokémon Contests. Dawn journeys to participate in the Pokémon contests, following her mother’s footsteps, as she used to compete years ago. Max however has no Pokémon but he does lend a helping hand with the help of PokéNav skills to navigate the ways of the team which do get lost at times.
On his journeys, Ash also has to face some tough enemies like the Team Rocket lead by Giovanni, Team Magma lead by Maxie, Team Aqua lead by Archie, Team Galactic lead by Boss Cyrus and Hunter J who hunts for Pokémons to sell them and make some cash out of them.
Although made up as a single series Pokémon has been sub – divided into three series by name of Pokémon: Advanced Generation, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl and Pokémon Battle Dimension. These series have been further broken into smaller ones for the English viewers and till date eleven series of Pokémon have been aired.
A spin – off named ‘Pokémon Chronicles’ is all about some of the recurring characters in the Pokémon series.
